CHRIS SIMPSON member
Chris is a proud Wakka Wakka man who currently resides with his partner Shana and his son Benjamin in Canberra. His father Bill Simpson joined the Navy in 1965 and served 20 years and his mother Lynnette Simpson worked as a School Cleaner, both his mother and father have retired and live in the family home in Cairns. Chris grew up in Cairns and worked in the Hotel Industry until he joined the Public Service as a Customer Service Officer with Centrelink in 2000.
Chris has held various roles and worked in various departments in the Public Service including; Indigenous Customer Service Officer, Debt Management Officer, Government Business Manager, Community Employment Broker and is currently an Account Manager in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Chris has been awarded may accolades during his 15 years in the Public
Service including; A National Youth Week Award for Community Commitment, A Secretaries Award for his tireless work in the Northern Territory Intervention and most recently he was awarded an Australia Day Medallion for his work in Yuendumu.
Besides his work as a Public Servant Chris recently underwent a lifestyle change in late 2011. He gave up the cigarettes and lost over 50kgs through hard work and healthy eating. Chris’ passion is riding his bike and participating in endurance events including the OXFAM 100km walk, various Triathlons,
Road Racing and Long Distance running to name a few. He is one of only 500 people in the world to successfully ‘Everest’ a mountain on a bicycle
(which he has completed twice).
Chris enjoys a challenge and looks forward to working on the Shared Path board.
